Abbeywood Community School was previously named Filton High School. The school moved to a new building adjacent to the original school site in September 2010. Students mainly come from the local area on the outskirts of Bristol. The proportion of students known to be eligible for free school meals is below the national average. The school roll has fallen by a third since 2006 although numbers in the sixth form are rising. This is largely because planned housing developments have not taken place. There are more boys than girls in the school. The large majority of students are White British and the proportion who speak English as an additional language is well below the national average. The proportion of pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities is below the national average, although a higher than usual proportion have statements of special educational needs. This is because the school has a designated speech and communication resource base for 26 students. All of the 20 students currently enrolled in the resource base have a statement and many are on the autistic spectrum.
