This is a new school, opened in September 2006 as an amalgamation of separate infant and junior schools, in the premises of the old junior school. The attainment on entry of pupils entering the school in all age groups when it opened in September 2006 was significantly below average. As a result, when the new school was only one term old, it was identified by the Department for Education and Skills (now Department for Children, Schools and Families) as a 'hard to shift' school and as a result has received intensive support in the last two terms. A new headteacher was appointed to lead the new school in September 2006 with a new governing body and senior leadership team. The majority of the remaining staff are from the previous infant and junior schools. Many families associated with the school face challenging social and economic difficulties and children's attainment on entry to the Reception classes is typically below the levels expected for their age.
