Oasis Nursery is in an area of significant deprivation. Regeneration of the locality has brought high mobility and a substantial decline in numbers. White British children make up a third of the school's numbers and almost half have Black British, African or Caribbean heritage. Twelve come from families who are seeking asylum or refugee status. Twenty-one children are at an early stage of learning English; their main languages are Somali, Portuguese or Bengali. Children start nursery following their third birthday. Almost all have very low levels of attainment. About a quarter has learning difficulties or disabilities. The school is in an Education Action Zone (EAZ). There has been an acting headteacher since September 2005.
