This school is smaller than average for its type. It recently formed a federation with its local infant school under a single governing body but with separate headteachers. The infant school phase of the federation was not part of this inspection. During the process of federation, the junior school had an acting headteacher, who became substantive headteacher last term. The school serves a multi-ethnic community. The proportion of pupils from minority ethnic groups is well above average, as is the proportion of pupils who speak English as an additional language. The proportion of pupils who are known to be eligible for free school meals is also above average. The proportion of disabled pupils and those with special educational needs is above average, but the proportion of pupils supported on school action plus or with a statement of special educational needs is below average. In 2011 the school did not meet the current floor standard, whereby the government sets the minimum expectations for attainment and progress. The Seely Out of School Club childcare provision shares the school site but is not managed by the school's governing body and is not part of this inspection. A breakfast club held on each school day is run by the governing body and was included in this inspection.
