This is a smaller than average school in a residential area of Basildon which includes some significant deprivation. Almost all pupils come from the local area but a high proportion join or leave the school part way through their primary education as families move into or out of the area. There has been a rapid rise in the proportion of pupils who come from minority ethnic backgrounds; this stands at 47% currently. Most of these pupils are from African or Asian heritages. Almost all speak English quite fluently but often join the school with limited knowledge of British culture or with little experience of formal education. The proportion of pupils with learning difficulties and/or disabilities differs substantially between year groups but is average overall. Children start the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) with attainment that varies widely but is often below expected levels.
