Cann Hall Primary is much larger than many primary schools. Most pupils come from the large mixed housing estate in which the school is situated, with an increasing number attending from outside this immediate area. The percentage of pupils receiving free school meals is similar to the national average. Many children enter school with attainment well below that usually seen for their age. They start school in the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) Reception classes. The proportion of pupils with learning difficulties and/or disabilities is well above average and seven of these pupils have a statement of special educational need. Most pupils are White British. A small number come from a range of minority ethnic backgrounds and a few of them are at the early stages of learning English as an additional language.
