Ofsted Reports
Ofsted is the “Office for Standards in Education” in England. With its army of inspectors, Ofsted is responsible for inspecting every English educational establishment at least once every three years.
The outcome of this inspection is the “Ofsted Inspection Report”. This is a document of between 5 and 40 pages detailing every aspect of teaching, learning and management at the establishment. The report adheres to a strict “framework of judgements”, that has recently been simplified.
The main categories are:
For primary and secondary schools:
1) Leadership of the school. 2) Curriculum and other activities. 3) Teaching and learning, 4) Achievement and standards, 5) Personal development and well-being and 6) Care, guidance and support
For Daycare and pre-school:
1) The quality and standard of care, 2) The quality and standard of the education, 3) Protecting children from harm or neglect, 4) Helping children to be healthy, 5) Helping children achieve well, 6) Helping children make a positive contribution, 7) Organisation
In each of these categories, the school or nursery can be judged as 1) Outstanding, 2) Good, 3) Satisfactory or 4) Inadequate
The Ofsted Website
All Ofsted reports are stored on the Ofsted website; it publishes close to 100 reports every day. It does not publish any sort of league table or sorted list of school quality (although they do publish a yearly list of “Outstanding establishments” - about 500 of them). The reports must be downloaded individually in order to read the judgements.
Our Ofsted league tables
We have analysed every Ofsted report and are able to publish league tables for every region in England. You can perform a search to see the table for the schools nearest you.
