Making the right choice

Find My School was set up as a direct result of our experiences choosing nurseries and schools for our children. On this page you’ll find links to the sites we found most useful when going through this process. Please get in touch if you know of some other useful resources we can add.

Choosing a School

Choosing a schoolWhere to start? There are so many things to consider - when to apply, location, type of school, school performance and admissions criteria to name a few.

The government has a comprehensive website for finding out almost everything you need to know when choosing and applying to a school. Of course they don’t have Ofsted inspection league tables for every postcode - you can only find them on our website.

A more concise overview of education and school choices can be found on the Parents in Touch site and the Mumsnet site.

Choosing a Day Nursery

Chooing a nurseryPrivate day nurseries exist in the “private sector” rather than the “public sector”. As such they are not subject to as strict rules and procedures as state establishments. However, they are very well regulated and are certainly a safe and educationally rich place (usually!) for your child to develop.

And don’t forget that childcare vouchers are available to help fund your nursery places.

Ofsted inspect all private day nurseries at least every 3 years. When you are searching for a nursery, it can be prohibitively time consuming to read all of the reports for your area. This is one of the main reasons we set up our nurseries league tables for every postcode. Click here to search.
