Primary school league tables updated

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

We have now uploaded this year’s performance league tables. Here’s how the tables have changed since last year:

  • On average, Key Stage 2 (Year 11) SATs performance has improved from 81% to 82% of children achieving the target grade.
  • 52% of primary schools performed better than last year.
  • 48% of primary schools performed worse than last year.

The new league tables do not greatly affect the tables you find here on Find My School, because our ratings are based on the more reliable and respected Ofsted inspections. The only time we use these figures is to separate schools that have very similar Ofsted results.

Performance league tables published today

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

This year’s school performance league tables are published today. This post is just a reminder that our ratings are not based on those performance league tables, but on a much more reliable and consistent source - the Ofsted inspection.

We do however use the league tables ‘raw results’ to provide you with as much information as possible about the school. We will be updating our system over the next few days to include the latest 2007 results.

It is refreshing to see that The Guardian is not publishing a “league table” of results this year. Instead only an alphabetical listing will be provided. This reflects the growing unrest and lack of confidence in the entire performance tables system. Many people are predicting a significant change in the Government’s policy on league tables next year.

November Ofsted inspection statistics

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

We analysed 1,737  Ofsted reports in November. The breakdowns are as follows:

Type Outstanding Good Satisfactory Inadequate
Nurseries and
daycare
71 (7%) 629 (62%) 265 (26%) 54 (5%)
Primary schools 83 (15%) 299 (52%) 174 (30%) 17 (3%)
Secondary schools 32 (22%) 51 (35%) 47 (33%) 15 (10%)

Compared to October, there is a huge jump in inadequate secondary schools, from 3% to 10%. Also of some interest is the upward surge of ‘Outstanding’ providers; from 10% last month to 15% this month.
