The official government “School Report Card” scheme came one step closer to reality last week, with the publication of this this document.

The document outlines the concept of a “single overall grade” for schools, based on a combination of inspection reports and test results.

Last October the Secretary of State announced his intention to improve how schools’ performance is reported to parents. This improvement is to take the form of a school “report card”, that comprises all of the information a parent would find useful when choosing a school.

The Government is inviting feedback on this initiative and there is only one month left for you to have your say. You can view the consultation document and submit your feedback here.

Parents to trigger Ofsted inspections

Under newly proposed Ofsted reforms, it was confirmed that parents may be able to recommend a school be re-inspected, if they feel teachers are underperforming.

BBC Whistleblower - childcare, nurseries and Ofsted

Last night’s “Whilstblower” programme followed a journalist posing as a childcare professional. It reveals just how far a person with no experience or relevant qualifications can get in the world of childcare.

The programme also includes a candid interview with a disgruntled Ofsted inspector. Well worth watching. You can see it online with BBC’s iPlayer.
